84 wagoneer 2.5 stalling out!

First of all would like to say thanks for allowing me to be apart of the group. Okay so i purchased a amc jeep wagoneer 2.5l about four months ago. it barely ran and had sat for awhile when i got it. i could barely move it ten feet or turn the steering wheel without it cutting off. so i did fuel treatment, changed the oil, cleaned the carb, plugs and wires, and new fuel filter. well it runs better now it drives around town and ive actually had it running for two hours around town. no leaks or overheating. heres the issue if you try to give it alot of acceleration it acts like its losing compression. if you take it easy it will get up to 45-50 mph but after that itll lose power but wont cut off. it also will restart right away if it does cut off. i also had a shop check for vacuum leaks and they fixed them. Yesterday i bought a ignition control module which fixed a problem i had(the key wouldnt start the vehicle i had a push button but now key works). but its still stalling out. Side notes blueish whiteish smoke, carb making a sputtering noise, running smoother since icm installation, and rides rough. please help thinking about distibutor pickup but really wanted some advice. also the choke is tied up because the electric choke messed up. its summer time so dont need it closed right now. NEW TO CARBERATORS.

Welcome to the garage. Also not that familiar with carburators, but lets see.
Did you put new plugs and wires on, or only cleaned them?
Did you check the compression on each cylinder? Blueish smoke could point towards oil burning, but whiteish smoke (when engine is hot) towards coolant.
Could be a head gasket.

Re: 84 wagoneer 2.5 stalling out!

yes new plugs and wires, sorry for not clarifying. im having no water in my oil and also my radiator stays full, which is mind boggling. Havent checked compression on each cylinders. A little update yesterday i drove it and at first it acted like it didnt want to go. what i mean is i it was accelerating but not barely moving and then it kicked in and i drove it for a hour with no issue. Thanks for the suggestion Frango100.

Does this jeep have an automatic transmission?

Re: 84 wagoneer 2.5 stalling out!

Yes it has a automatic four speed. Also could this be a carb air fuel ratio mix being not perfect. The reason i say this is because the choke used to get stuck shut so i tied it all the way up. (stupid electronic chokes). anyway i was fiddling around and cut the ziptie and made it where it close a little bit and open all the way, but not close all the way. i was able to floor it and get to 60. i had to slow down because of a stop sign, but i had significant power compared to what i had. It still stumbled once but not as bad.

Re: 84 wagoneer 2.5 stalling out!

Just a little update, its doing the same but i did figure out that the spring on the choke was not connected so this may be my issue. i will post if this changes anything.
