95 Cherokee Sport - fuel issues

I have a 95 Cherokee sport 4.0 liter, straight-six.

I know very little about cars, so I'll start with the first problem. My fuel pressure regulator started leaking after I drove my jeep from Oregon to my current home in Alaska. After replacing that part, the Jeep would crank and ignite, and would run for a couple of seconds and then die. Soon after that, it would not ignite at all.
After trying some HEET and then starting fluid, my jeep would crank and ignite again but then would shut off after a few seconds. And now after a couple days, it's cranking but not starting at all again.
Fuel filter was just replaced also.
It had also been sitting for most of this year. It sat on a car lot for about 6 months, then I bought it and drove it for 2 months, went to Alaska and let it sit for another 4 months, and have never had a problem with it until I got it up here in Alaska. I also live on an island with no mechanics so anything will help! Thanks!

The most likely issue is that your new fuel pressure regulator is not allowing enough fuel pressure to keep the vehicle from shutting down due to low fuel pressure--where that is because it thinks it has a leak.

You could have gotten something in the fuel system that has plugged it up during the replacement, again if the engine does not see expected pressure, it shuts down.

Got any means of measuring the pressure?

No I don't have anything to check that with! How do I check the pressure? The schrader valve?

You can press the schrader valve on the fuel rail to check for pressure. If there is none, then first check if you can hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds after switching ignition in run. I would also double check if the fuel pressure regulator is mounted correctly.

There's fuel shooting from the schrader valve! And I've been reading a lot about an auto shutdown relay and was wondering if that has anything to do with it too? Because I can't figure out exactly what it is and how it could be a problem.

Re: 95 Cherokee Sport - fuel issues

The auto shut down relay can prevent it from starting, but it would be strange that this started after the pressure regulator change. You could try and swap the ASD relay with an other one in the same box for trouble shooting.
Did you check if no electrical connector was left loose after the work was done?

I'll be sure to check around and make sure everything got put back the same. And the funny thing about the pressure regulator is that my jeep was starting just fine when it was leaking, but then stopped starting after it got taken out. Even when the old part was put right back in. So I'll check around to make sure

Or I'll have someone else do it because I have absolutely no idea! I'm just hoping to not have to put it on a ferry when it's not running to take it to Juneau to get fixed
