95 grand cherokee fuel problem

I bought a 95 GC at an aucton. It runs fairly well but VERY rich. Gas actually comes out the exhaust. I put new plugs in but it did not help.
Anyone have a sugestion?

Re: 95 grand cherokee fuel problem

No check engine light on? I would check for eventual fault codes set. Does it run rough, as if one (or more) cylinders are not firing?

Re: 95 grand cherokee fuel problem

Are you sure it's gas coming out of the exhaust? I would think the heat would evaporate it before it reached the tail pipe.

Anyhow, I would start with a couple of cans of injector cleaner. Chevron makes a good one. If this car sat for any length of time the gas could be screwing things up.

Re: 95 grand cherokee fuel problem

does it have fuel injection? it looks like a very small carburator on it.

More than likely throttle body fuel injection. Jeep started using fuel injection in the late 80' IIRC.

Re: 95 grand cherokee fuel problem

Thanks everyone. I took t to a shop and found the ECM is bad. Now I'm looking for one I can afford.
