Question 96 ZJ Combination Flasher

I have a 96 Grand Cherokee Laredo project vehicle and am having trouble getting the turn signals to work. They weren't working when I purchased it. The four ways work fine, all the bulbs are good and I just replaced the multi function switch on the column, fuses are all good. My question is this; can the combination flasher be bad and the fourways still work, and is there any way to test the flasher short of buying a new one (at $50.00) and checking it that way. I have no problem buying a new one if thats the problem, just would like to know before I lay out the bucks.
Thanks for any help I get.

This doesn't answer your question specifically, but if it comes down to trying out a new one, I'd pull one from your local junkyard. Lot cheaper!

Re: 96 ZJ Combination Flasher

If the combination flasher is the same as on the WJ, then it has two fuses feeding the power to it. These relays many times start getting problems with bad solders on the circuit board. Just check the solders first and re-solder if any breakage or bad contact is suspected.

I found this section of the service manual regarding the signal / flasher system, hope it helps. There is a part about how to check the relay for continuity with an ohm meter.

Frango brings up a very good point about the solder points too, they are a good thing to check.
