98 jeep grand Cherokee vibration

I've got a 98 jgc 4 wheel drive and going down the road its vibrating pretty bad. No death wobble or anything just vibration. U joints don't seem to be bad and both drive shafts don't appear to be bent. What are some ideas I can check without taking it to a mechanic and having him change 10 things that ain't seeing hoping to get right

Re: 98 jeep grand Cherokee vibration

Its hard to say without feeling the freequency... if its a really fast vibration I would lean towards driveshaft balance or ujoint, if its a bit slower, tire balance... Inspect your tires for any obvious damage or wear.

If your tires are really tired I would start there, even if it doesnt fix it it never hurts to have good tires if you needed them, much better than replacing ujoints and other things for no reason.

Check Ur transfer case. Those np249 the front roller bearing on the vicious coupler grenade on the inside. Check to see how much play u have in Ur front drive shaft going into the t-case. If u have 1/4 of play up and down time to rebuild. Also check Ur seals for leakage. If it did grenade metal shavings are eating up Ur seals
