A/C Problem! Any advice?

At the end of last summer, I noticed the A/C was starting to not work as well as it used to in my 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 L. I tried recharging on my own, and it only lasted about a week, then I noticed the air blowing warm from the passenger side again. Even the driver side wasn't as cold as before. I took it into Midas for them to check it out. They claimed it probably didn't have a leak since the driver's side works just fine after they recharged, but they thought the blend door on the passenger side might be broken or need fixed? They said it's something that the dealer would need to look at, by taking off the dash, etc. I don't have the dual HVAC system. Heat works perfect on both sides, this is just an A/C issue. I let it go until now because I didn't have the money to deal with it, but now with summer coming up, I don't want to be dealing with this when it's 90 degrees out and I just want to get it fixed.

Before I throw away hundreds of dollars at a Jeep dealer, is this something I could fix on my own, or without the help of a dealer? Has anybody else had this problem? If so, what kind of expense am I looking at? Thank you in advance!!!

My jeep did the exact same thing. Passenger side was warm, drivers side was cool. I charged it with a can of r134a and the problem was solved.

Do you notice any kind of an oily odor coming from the vents when you run the A/C?

No I haven't noticed a smell. My brother in law thinks it might be the condenser so I ordered a new one and am waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully that's the problem.

Re: A/C Problem! Any advice?

if its an external leak its easy enough to locate all you need is a spray bottle and a soap and water solution. thats alot more prudent than "thinking" its the condenser. replacing parts in hope of actually fixing the problem can get very costly
