Re: Alarm sounds when cranking - Jeep turns off

Of course I am going to follow the steps you mentioned first. But do you think its safe to drive even with the light? I'm in need of transportation. I'm hoping the cleaning and grease work things out. Thanks

Re: Alarm sounds when cranking - Jeep turns off

hanks again for the info.of course I'm going to follow the steps you suggested.such is cleaning and applying the grease.but if it cranks and runs normally,do you think its safe to drive?I'm unfortunately in need of transportation.so I'm hoping that cleaning and greasing the box will solve the issue. And then I can check on the lights later. But I also don't want to further damage the vehicle.what do you think?
Thanks again
Jamie

Donīt think that any damage will be done, but do the keydance first as described before just to know what it gives.

Re: Alarm sounds when cranking - Jeep turns off

Hi again,

So on lunch break, I went through the steps again and was very thorough. Disconnected battery, opened up C200 (and the other box) dried it with a hair dryer, then sprayed it down with the circuit cleaner, let it dry, applied the diaelectric grease, put it back together along with the battery.

It cranked successfully! All gauges are back to normal. The key dance resulted in a "Done" read, no codes. However the air bag light stayed on???
Hopefully nothing will pop back up after a bit. I know disconnecting the battery can reset codes. Fingers crossed. But once again the over head is back on and it appears to be running well.

I'll keep you updated...

Airbag???
Is there a way to prevent the water/moisture from reoccuring?

But thanks very much. I have a running vehicle without the hefty repair bill. So I know have the time to troubleshoot anything that may pop up.

Thanks again and I'll keep you posted.
Jamie

Re: Alarm sounds when cranking - Jeep turns off

That is good news, nothing better then when you can do it yourself. Iīm not sure where the water is coming in, maybe from the receptacle on the engine bay side. Some dielectric grease on that side could prevent water to come back in.
The airbag system front impact sensor wiring goes through connector C200, so when you disconnected the C200 connector the first time with the battery connected, then it can be that the airbag control module has set the sensor as fault. Some faults will reset by itself after several key cycles, some donīt. To be sure that you didnīt blow a fuse, you could check fuses 32 and 33 on the junction block under the steering wheel. If ok, i would just wait for some days and see if it goes out by itself. It can take some 20 or 30 key cycles when iīm not wrong.

Re: Alarm sounds when cranking - Jeep turns off

Thanks again for the info.

I was wondering about the fuses as well. But I had to get back to work so I didnt have the time to look into it. Fortunately, I'll have time tomorrow and over the weekend to really investigate the issue. Hopefully all will be well.

I'll let you know how it goes so you'll have the info and others can learn from the experience as well.

Once again, I really appreciate the walk through. Being a newbie, it can be challenging at times.

Thanks

Jamie

Re: Alarm sounds when cranking - Jeep turns off

Still not home yet to check on it. But my wife says the vehicle runs fine. However, there are a few things she noticed.

She said the seat belt & air bag lights are on. But the seat belt warning isn't ringing. Also she said the power locks and power windows arent working on any of the doors. Finally, she said that the memory seat isnt working (when you press the key fob).

Sorry to bother you again. Just trying to figure out which direction. Not sure if I blew a couple fuses or if I really messed something up. Maybe they're all related. ???

Thanks again.

Jamie

Re: Alarm sounds when cranking - Jeep turns off

If the instrument cluster and EVIC are working now, then i wonīt expect the problem to be the data bus. You could measure the bus voltage, just to be sure its not out of line (2.0-2.5V). The memory seat info is send from the drivers door module via the PCI bus to the seat module. I would have a look in the drivers door boot, to see if no wire is broken overthere. A broken ground wire (the thick black wire) will cause all power windows, power locks, memory seat and mirrors to be inoperative and the interior lights will stay on all the time and can only be switched off with the instruments dim switch in full dim.
The seatbelt signal comes also from the airbag control module, so check fuses 32 and 33 on the junction block first.

Re: Alarm sounds when cranking - Jeep turns off

Hi,

Sorry it took a while to get back.

But you were right... The black wire in the driver door boot was broken. It must have been close to breaking for awhile now. I looked there first when the first issue arose but it wasn't broken. So I guess it must have finally gave way when I closed the boot... Now I just need to reconnect it back together.

Thanks again. No trip to the dealer!

Jamie

After many times being flexed by opening/closing the door, the wire will break internally and the isolation can still be intact for a while. This gives intermittent problems which are difficult to find. For that reason it is always best to not only look at the wires, but to also try to bend them a bit. If the wire is broken internally, then you will feel a weak spot in the wire when bending it.
