If there is no voltmeter on the dash, you need to use an external voltmeter. Measure the voltage on the battery poles with the engine off, This should be around 12,6 V on a charged battery. Then start the engine and check again, the voltage should be now 13,5-14,5 V. When it is significantly lower, you could have a problem with the alternator or regulator.
If you don't have a volt- or multimeter, just switch on the headlights with the engine off and see if they become brighter when the engine is on, which is a sign that the alternator is charging.
