Battery runs flat on 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Diesel

Has anyone had a problem with the battery on their 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited diesel going flat after sitting for 1-2 weeks without being driven? This jeep has less than 400 miles on it and the battery won't hold a charge for a week. Dealer says nothing wrong and daily current draw is less than spec.

check the engine grounds or have the dealer check them

Apparently the cause is the inside rear view mirror can keep the power bus alive. Star case S1408000045 update not available until 2nd quarter of 2014 (March to June). Solution: disconnect mirror until fix is available.

Re: Battery runs flat on 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Diesel

Since it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem, I wonder why they don't just replace the mirror?

Re: Battery runs flat on 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Diesel

This is from a similar post in the garage.
Case Number: S1408000045
Release Date: 01/31/2014
Symptom/Vehicle Issue:
Battery Drains, No Start
Discussion:
An incident report indicates the radio or cluster remains illuminated after the vehicle is shut off and the door is opened. The condition as described may be caused by the interior mirrors communication protocol with the embedded phone within the radio. This communication may continue at times even after the vehicle is shut off; keeping the BUS active and draining the battery. If the above illumination condition is duplicated, unplug the rear view mirror to validate a mirror concern. Radio or Cluster replacements are not a recommended to resolve this mirror induced condition. Updates to the mirror hardware will be available by 2nd quarter 2014.

Guess the new hardware won't be available for a few months. May be more widespread than one might think.

Re: Battery runs flat on 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Diesel

I saw this once on mine right after the dealer replaced the radio. I got out of the car and the console instruments stayed illuminated (I always look after I get out to insure its locked) - all I did was get back in and cycle the ignition switch on and the off again and I've never seen it again.

Re: Battery runs flat on 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Diesel

Dealer unplugged mirror at direction of factory. Still didn't fix the problem. If vehicle sits for a week battery goes flat and won't start engine. Dealer kept for a week and checked battery frequently and could find no problem. This time I'm going to take it to them, make them park it for a week, call me when they try to start it and show them the problem. Next step after that if they can't fix it is a new Jeep. Ridiculous quality.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

This is a pretty good summary of how to check for parasitic battery drain

http://www.wikihow.com/Find-a-Parasitic-Battery-Drain

It'll at least narrow down where to look. I'm surprised the dealer didn't do this. Or maybe they did, I dunno.
I have a ZJ, but sometimes if your battery is low, some relays can get stuck and just keep clicking until your battery dies.
Also check your under hood light, make sure it actually goes out when you close the hood.
If parking for 3 weeks or longer, it's generally a good idea to disconnect the battery anyway.

Does anyone have any information about the upgrade to fix this problem as reported in S1408000045?
