CEL trouble codes

Hello fello Jeep owners. My girlfriend was driving my 2005 GC and told me the check engine light came on. She stated it was running sluggish so I checked the CEL codes with a primitive scanner. I got P1521, P0700 and P0888? i was wondering if any of you out there could help me figure out what these codes mean. Thank you and best wishes.

Re: CEL trouble codes

The P1521 code means that it sees an incorrect oil type. Was the oil changed recently and was 5W20 put in?
The P0700 code is a general transmission failure code, it means that the TCM (transmission controller) has seen a failure.
The P0888 code is the actual failure of the transmission system: it means that the transmission control relay is off. With this relay in off, the transmission is in limp mode and stays in 3rd gear. That makes it quite sluggish while accelerating from a stop. For this fault, i would start swapping the transmission control relay with a same one in the relay box. Use the relay from a non important system for this test. If it appears to solve the problem, then buy a new one. If this doesn´t help, you will need to measure the wiring between the relay and the PCM (the TCM is part of the PCM) for continuity and short to ground. If this all seems to be ok, then the problem will most probably be internally to the PCM.
