Check Engine light on with hick up in acceleration

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 5.7L

Last night while driving home I stopped at a stop light went to accelerate and when I hit second gear my jeep shuttered/ hick-uped and then my check engine light started flashing along with the traction control light. I took eat easy the rest of the way home not going over 30 mph turned the car off and on a couple time to see if the light would go off and never did. So I got up this morning went out and checked the car out no C.E. light. So I took it out several times this afternoon no problems. Then this evening while coming home from dinner it did the same thing as last night. Has anyone had this problem? Should I automatically assume its the transmission? And if so how much should I be expecting to pay for a new transmission? and is there a specific transmission that is recommended I purchase especially since im thinking of modifying my vehicle in the future? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Check Engine light on with hick up in acceleration

if your check engine light was flashing thats an indication of a misfire... do the key dance and let us know what dtc you get.

key dance instructions:

key in the ignition, turn the key to the on (not start) then off, then on (not start) then off, then ON and leave it there... your evic will tell you any dtc's in your PCM

Re: Check Engine light on with hick up in acceleration

After doing the key dance the code came up and my check engine light went off again. However i drove it around the block and its still hickuping...

P0339 Crankshaft position sensor

After reading up on this a bit it seems like something relatively simple to do. As Im new to the sight, do any of you have any words of wisdom on changing this sensor out or any pictures of where my sensor is located? Or know of a past conversation on this site that might be able to help me out? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again for the help!

Re: Check Engine light on with hick up in acceleration

This was pretty simple and only took about 10 minutes to do.After looking back through my records I had forgotten my parents had borrowed my jeep while I was away on business and had the same problem fixed in January. So since Ive only had the vehicle for 15 months now my next question is if this sensor keeps going out is there something else going on that would ruin the sensors?

No it likely means an aftermarket sensor was used then... They suck. If you used aftermarket, drive it till its a problem and replace it with an oem sensor.
