Re: Clunk noise help.

mechanic first fabs,

have him look at all mounting points, esp the front diff that has 3 rubber bushings mounting points. those go bad. any mechanic could replace them.

Okay.. So, I've got a call from the dealer, they told me I need a new transfer case. A $2200. price f***ing tag!! on it.. They told me that the problem was cause by the SRT8 wheels. IDK, what to do know.

Holy hell!!! That sux, and I feel for you right now. Did they go in depth as to why the srt wheels caused it? With my srt reps and 275 tires the wheel diameter is slightly bigger than stock, but they are all the same diameter so how would that effect the transfer case im wondering. If you have different sized tires all around then I could see a problem, like when i was cheap and just replaced two rear tires on my previous 94 GC with larger tires than were on the front and just driving out of the shop it felt like the front end was being pushed and the tires chirped. Im not sure if I believe the dealers reason.

Me, I would have it looked at somewhere else before pulling the trigger on a new transfer case, maybe a transmission shop that can rebuild it if thats the real issue. Im sure the dealer doesnt give an F, and want to make the most money and easiest route by replacing the whole thing.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL....whatever! I would find someone else to fix it.

Anyway...I thought the problem was the front end? Mustve read it wrong. But.....dont pay $2200. Look on car-part.com and change it yourself or find a local mechanic to switch it out.....

Re: Clunk noise help.

I'd go have it looked at somewhere else before pulling the trigger on a new transfer case. Like a transmission shop that can rebuild if for less if thats the real issue with it. The dealer just wants to make money, doesnt care how much a customer spends, and is lazy and would rather just replace the whole thing. Ask questions, make sure its the real reason for it. I once stripped a front sway bar bolt swapping out my springs, I drove to a local shop and the kid that put it on the lift started saying it was bad and I needed a whole new lower control arm, where then I looked at him like he is an idiot and to get it off the lift right away because it should be just a simple tap job to rethread the bolt hole. Where then he tapped it out without a problem, F'er still charged me $46 to do it. But at first he wanted to make me think it was a big job, which it wasnt. If I was dumb and nieve I would of spent alot of money for this jerk off trying to rip me off.
