Re: Dealership scam on service work!

END RESULT:

Just got back from the dealer. Was able to meet with the service manager and the tech who performed the work originally. He swore that he did swap the fluid on the front. So we had them lift it up, and sure enough it was obvious, but they pulled the drain plug just to make sure.... And it was USED. So they kind of tucked there tails in between their legs and apologized up and down and couldn't figure out how that "slipped through the cracks" so who knows what really happened. It could have been an honest mistake, or it could have been something more, I will never know. The service manager did give me 4 free oil changes, which is what I have been buying, so roughly $80 value. At least it's resolved and I'm pleased with the out come.

Lovely, glad it worked out.

At least next time the tech will put a wrench in the drain plug and wiggle it around...

Baloney. You don't miss an entire item and call it "an honest mistake".

I'm sure they do this all the time; this time they got caught.

The tech punches in the RO saying s/he did the work; if the work wasn't done, the tech needs to get docked and have a warning put in their file.

Over the decades I've gotten a few service managers fired over this kind of crap. The bad news is that they just pop up again at another dealership.

just MHO,

Tom I agree, my gut feeling was this was something that happens all the time. The average person would have no idea if the work was actually even performed. I will never know for sure but just makes you always be on the look out.

Hey felt bad that this happened, and that "this kind of thing never happens". And the weird thing was when we went to lift it up to take a look at the front differential plug, he wasn't even concerned. He just told the tech to swap the fluid and then we went and got me a slip for my 4 free oil changes. So almost makes me think that maybe he knew it wasn't done in the first place... Either cuz that kind of thing is what they are suppose to try and get away with, or that the tech had fessed up to him. Who knows. At least I caught it and got the service done, as well as some free oil changes.

They have probably done that type of thing and similar thousands of times, this time they just got caught. Remember dealers assume that 100% of people coming through the door are mechanical idiots that just drive their car from a to b and that no one would ever pop the hood let alone check under a vehicle. I had a dealer tell me once how filthy and black my power steering, brake fluid and cabin filter were and needed changed when all had been changed 3 weeks before. I ran that up the chain and found out that dealership was under a new name/ownership because the previous had been thrown out 2 years before for fraudulent service practices, and now the new ownership was doing the same thing! lol. Just my opinion but stuff like that is rampant in dealerships.
Do what service you can yourself and check any dealer work closely. Glad you caught that.

That wasn't a forgetful mistake... basically he looked you in the face and lied.
