Fault code, P3425

My engine light came on about 2 days after having my water pump replaced (hairline cracks, bottom hose) and an oil change (90,000 miles). Repair shop used an OEM reader and got the P3425 code. Definition: Solenoid 4 circuit. Explanation: The ECM has detected a fault in the solenoid control circuit. Probable cause: 1- Open or short circuit condition. 2- Faulty MDS 4 solenoid. 3- ECM fault. I usually feel when the MDS activates and notice the drop in RPM's but did not after the water pump replacement. Gas milege has dropped but now after 2 weeks it feels like the MDS is activating again. Had the light reset but is on again. Not sure where to start without getting the intake removed to check MDS 4 solenoid. Any suggestions?

Re: Fault code, P3425

did they use the proper oil? sometimes too heavy an oil will mess with the MDS.

they changed it mid stream saying they all require 5-20 oil. if you use a heavier oil it can cause mds issues.

although according to the manual its all electrical.

im trying to find a pic of where these solenoids are located???????

Re: Fault code, P3425

they are under the intake manifold: from the 2007 manual;

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the intake manifold. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/MANIFOLDS/INTAKE MANIFOLD - REMOVAL).
3. Remove wiring harness connectors from the MDS solenoids.
4. Remove hold down bolt from MDS solenoid.
5. Remove MDS solenoid.

Re: Fault code, P3425

They said they used Napa 5w20 when I questioned them. Could have been to cover themselves. The mech I talked to was not familar with MDS but was the one who did the water pump. He pulled the engine cover off to look for nicked wires or loose ones from his repair but didnt think he had done anything to it. Maybe an oil change at the dodge dealer will be cure finding (or money loosing).

Re: Fault code, P3425

before you spend a nickel unhook the negative terminal from the battery. 10mm.
then step on the brake for 30 seconds. then reconnect. that should clear the CEL. then drive it a bit and see if it comes back.

if it comes right back, then maybe a trip to the stealer to at leadst get a good diagnose. also look around at the front of the motor for wires they may have nicked yourself. to get
