^^^^^ya I mentioned oil/gunk "around" pcv meaning outside which if alot would mean a clogged one or worn rings.

Re: Frikking 3.7

Ahhhh. Thanks. Starting to love this forum. I've been into all sorts of things over the years, mostly motorcycles and this is my first jeep product. Have had a few different 4x4s and wife was always picking at me to get a jeep. Even with the issues, I love the jeep and like the challenge of fixing problems....my son will be that age pretty soon...( March) and hope to have most of it worked out by then...
Just want to thank everyone who has joined in with ideas and I do follow up on them all. You guys are great.

Re: Frikking 3.7

Not alot of oil around, just some inside. This thing would be awesome if I could just get the idle up another 100 rpm or so. It just doesn't like to be at 500. I thought that maybe I got a faulty PCV. Took it back, put new one on and same rattle.

Take it back and get another, rattle means the cheapo spring or plunger inside are broken.

Re: Frikking 3.7

have you popped by an auto parts store for a free scan for stored codes? I use Autozone cuz they will also print it out for you with the text...

Re: Frikking 3.7

If the PCV valve is still rattling, it means a quick changing air pressure inside the crankcase. Did you do a compression check already?

Re: Frikking 3.7

no comp check yet. the new pcv started rattling like the old ones this morning. it hadnt been doing it. if i move it around, it will quit for a bit. Ive only had it for a short time and am trying to get the dealer to let me take it to another shop, one with a more competent mechanic.

Re: Frikking 3.7

Since it seems to idle ok when cold, but drops down when warm, i would also have a look at the O2 sensors. Maybe one sensor is getting bad, causing a downtrim of the injector pulse. Seems that you don´t have a scanner (should have been standard equipment on a jeep), but if you have a smartphone, than you can buy a cheap bluetooth or wifi dongle (of e-bay), and download the free Torque app. You can than read fault codes, errase them, but also see many life data. You can than observe the O2 voltages and also what the fuel trim is doing.
It also would be interresting to see what the MAP is doing (the #1 for the calculations of the fuel injector pulse). Check it when running cold and compare it when warm.
Also the IAT (inlet air temperature) would be good to check.
