Gas Smell...

Hey guys,

I need some help. Recently my 2006 4.7L has a bad smell of gas in the cab. The Jeep doesn't drive any different or run any different at idle. I changed the spark plugs over the summer but only started to smell it recently. There are no codes either.

Also, I don't know if it's related, but the engine started squealing intermittently on a cold start up at about the same time. It continues to do this until it is at normal operating temperature. It isn't a consistent squeal like a bad belt. I have also tried belt dressing and it didn't help at all.

I have searched on both of these and haven't been able to find much. Any help before I take it to the dealership would be great.

JonJon

Re: Gas Smell...

check your pressure port on the right bank fuel rail. make sure you have a cap on it and that its not leaking.... we had one come in with a bunch of problems just purchased from a gypsy lot and they had "their mechanic" look at it... it came in with a terrible fuel smell and it was because they had some ancient fuel pressure gauge still attached to this port and leaking pretty bad. Not that thats your case exactly.

Ultimately your just going to have to physically track down the fuel lines, check all the fuel injectors for fuel getting past the oring, and follow what you can of the fuel lines.

Re: Gas Smell...

Alright so I looked and the cap is on tight and there is no leaks coming from there. There is a distinct smell of gas coming from the passenger side. I tried tracking it down myself but I cant find any leaks. I think I may have to take it in to the dealership.

Anyone have any ideas on the squeaking though?
