Has anyone ever saved their 42RE tranny?

First and Reverse work fine but it won't upshift. No codes in the PCM. Tranny oil is still redish (it could be cleaner for 167,000 kms and doesn't smell burnt. I'm convinced that it's an electrical problem. Anyone ever get lucky by replacing both the underdrive solenoide (AKA the governor pressure solenoide) as well as the governor pressure sensor?

I still have some electrical tests to perform, but it's looking more and more like that may be the problem.

Thanks!

Luke

Re: Has anyone ever saved their 42RE tranny?

Not familiar with this tranny myself, but the jeep manual tells the following when Rev and 1st still ok:

1.Governor Circuit Electrical Fault. 1. Test using DRB
scan tool and repair as required.
2. Valve Body Malfunction. 2. Repair stuck 1-2 shift valve or governor plug.
3. Front Servo/Kickdown Band Damaged/Burned. 3. Repair/replace.

Governor Pressure Solenoid Valve. That's one of the number 1 problems with the 42RE's. Get it checked up!

Re: Has anyone ever saved their 42RE tranny?

Thanks for the info Paul. I unhooked the kick down cable and unplugged the C2 center plug out of the PCM. Plugged it back in, wiggled it and went for a test drive. Now it starts off in what feels like 3rd gear (default gear when the tranny sets a code). I have low 1 and drive or 3rd. It still won't up shift or downshift. I'm sure that Governor pressure valve is screwed up! I just want to be sure before I change it for nothing.
