Help! 2003 jeep tj sport electrical problems

So my 2003 jeep wrangler tj sport started acting up a few months back... the fog lights stayed on continously so u just unplugged them... well after that a short time after if I hit my brakes the whole dash would light up then if I put my turn signal on the odometer would flash in unison with the turn signals. Well now I have no dash lights my low fuel light check engine light and fog light symbol light up but thats it I have no other light and my rear tailights dont work but I have brake lights and turn signals. I have checked all the fuses under the hood and in the vehicle and all is good. Could it be my turn signal/ light switch? Or do I have a bad ground? And help is much appreciated! Thanks caleb

Not familiar with the TJ, but i would almost say that the problem is moisture/corrosion in one of the connectors.

Re: Help! 2003 jeep tj sport electrical problems

Not necessarely, i would have a look at connectors which pass through the engine bay bulkhead. Also donīt know if you can test the instrument clusterl as with the WJ; with ignition in off, press odometer reset knob and switch ignition in run. You can now release the odometer reset knob. All indicator lights come on and instruments go to full scale and return to normal position. This test is just to see if the instrument cluster itself is not faulty.

Re: Help! 2003 jeep tj sport electrical problems

New question. I didnt get time to look at my jeep and its also 100 degrees but I drove it to town tonight and if I step on my brakes and stay on them my dash lights will eventually come on but go off when I release the pedal. Any suggestions?

If you've got a plug for a trailer, could check that for corrosion or broken wires

Yes I do the trailer wire kit that just plugs into the tail lights. I will start there before I tear into other things

Apparently I have a bad short somewhere because if I hit my dash my radio cuts out until I hit it again

Re: Help! 2003 jeep tj sport electrical problems

You don't have a short, otherwise a fuse would melt and you would loose the connected components until changing the fuse. You have a bad contact somewhere. It could be a wire break inside the insulation or a bad contact in a connector. I would twist and shake the wire bundels behind the dash and see when the problem occurs.
