HELP 2015 GC steering

I'm a new Jeep owner and just got a new 2015 GC limited and need help with the steering. On the highway this is the hardest vehicle to keep on a straight path that I've ever driven (and I was a truck driver for over a decade). Every swale in the pavement, bump in the road, or weak cross-wind causes the vehicle to swerve. Turn the steering wheel a hair and it moves. I've never driven a vehicle so squirrelly on the road...so much that I dread driving on the highway.

Is this normal for a GC!?

Any idea what could be causing this?

FWIW, tire pressure is at 31psi.

Thanks you for your help!

Re: HELP 2015 GC steering

That psi sound a little low to me. Get that up to maybe 34-35 and try that. If that doesn't solve the issue there's a TSB for centered steering wheel and if that's performed they should or will check your steering rack underneath and also will do an alignment under warranty. Some folks have reported issues with the fortera Goodyear tires that came with the vehicle if you have those. Start with raising the PSI on all 4 tires first and then observe from there. Good luck we are all here if you need us.

Re: HELP 2015 GC steering

Thank you! I will raise the psi and see. If it doesn't help it has to go in. It's almost undrivable on the highway. I have Michelin's.

I just finished an hour drive on the interstate and something has to be wrong. It's like driving in a hurricane. The vehicle is all over the damn road. Every little bump and the front wheels turn bad. It's the most physically demanding vehicle because you're nonstop correcting where this thing wants to track. I hope the dealer can find something because I hate driving it over 45.

Gonna have my bro-in-law drive it tonight and compare it to his 15 GC.

Re: HELP 2015 GC steering

I took mine in for the centered steering wheel TSB and they replaced my entire steering rack and found I had a power steering leak also,a whine when you turned the wheel far right. After that warranty work there are no issues. I have the forteras and I'm at 36 PSI. Down from 40 over the winter.

Re: HELP 2015 GC steering

Thanks for all the suggestions. Is this the tsb?

I'm taking it in to the dealer in the morning. My brother-in-law drove mine and his is doing the same thing. Unbeknownst to me, he dropped his off at the dealer tonight before I met him to have that very problem looked at. I'll update you all tomorrow after I hear something.

Thanks again for the help!

Re: HELP 2015 GC steering

Dealer just called, they say nothing is wrong and they couldn't produce the issue and that there are no loose components.

I know I'm not used to the way the GC handles but I've been driving vehicles for 25 years and never drove anything like this.

Not sure what to do at this point. Guess change psi and hope thing settle down as it ages.

Re: HELP 2015 GC steering

Dealer set it to 41psi on all 4. I'll drop down to 35 and see what happens.

Would any of this be from it being brand new and the suspension still all stiff? It only has 400 miles.

If you have the Michelins, that would mean you have the 18inch wheels and the Michelins are Latitude Tours? Those are really more "no season" than "all season" tires. However, wandering wasn't an issue, just so-so traction and tread wear, particularly compared to the Michelin MS2

Thought even the door sticker pressure was higher than 31.

Having really good luck running 38 rear, 36 front, but if you drive freeway a lot, you might want to go even a couple pounds higher.

Re: HELP 2015 GC steering

Which suspension? Air or old fashioned?
The standard suspension can be upgraded fairly easily.

If the air suspension try sport mode and see if that helps...
