Help with electrical jeep issue

I have tried every possible thing I can think of on my jeep. My check engine light stays on, along with my skim key icon and my passenger brake light doesn't wrk. I got a new battery found an fixed a short on my tci, checked the door ground brass prongs for taillights but still nothing. The self test goes 0-9 then nothing, turning the key 3 times also does nothing. What do I do? I even got a new key mad. I've gotten the car to start an drive a few times then it's back to running and shutting off.someone plz help

Re: Help with electrical jeep issue

Welcome to the garage.
Best thing to start with is telling us which jeep you have.
Do odometer/speedometer and other meters work?
Do power windows and power locks work?
This seems to be a data bus problem. If you have a WJ, then i can help you a bit further.
The brake light is most probably a separate problem. When bending the brass prongs didnīt help, then try to bend the oposite site on the light assy a bit out.

Re: Help with electrical jeep issue

Good change that there is water in the C200 connector on the bulkhead in the passengers footwell. Water will short out the PCI data bus and you loose all instruments and the engine starts and shuts off. (no valid key signal, which also comes via the data bus) Check the connector and dry it and put some dielectric grease on the pins before re-installing. You then still have to look for the leak source, which can be a window seal.

Where exactly can I find this and what does it look like? I'd hate to mess with the wrong thing

Re: Help with electrical jeep issue

If you donīt find water there, then the real trouble shooting will begin, because any of the components connected to the PCI data bus can short it out. (approx 90% of the modules communicate via the data bus)

What if all other components work without a problem?

Did you check connector C200 for moisture? If all the connected components are ok, then the bus wire can be making a short somewhere. But to find this out, you will have to disconnect all the componets one by one and check if the bus returns. What year is your jeep?
By the way, that the modules are working doesnīt want to say that the data bus part of the modules is ok.
