Thank you for answering back. Just trying to find out if there was any other option, and how much time/trouble it would take. Any suggestions on a repair shop / SALVAGE YARD that would have one, and is the ecm specific to a wrangler or Will a Cherokee ecm interchange? Would one for a police application work as well? What would be the difference?
Not sure about your questions, but i would take the P/N from your ECU and look for a same one. I would presume that an ECU from a cherokee from the same year or close to it would work as well.
Thanks for your reply again,Franco100. I have looked the p.n.#-56027 384. Was told it was specific to wrangler. Just trying to sort through B.S. & fact. I just got the wrangler a few weeks ago.not running. The jeep thing is new to me. Thanks again.
Check engine light is on. Can't get it to flash when doing the ignition switch : on,off,on,off,on. If that's the right way to test it? Engine cranks but will not start. No spark at coil secondary. New crankshaft sensor. Still no spark. Ecm has dry rot cracks all through the jell that covers the inside of it and it flakes off if you rub it with your finger. Ecm may still be good?,but since I'm at this point I would rather fix or replace it with one that at least looks better anyway. Not the best way to see if ecm is at fault, any other suggestions?

You dont have a scanner or can borrow one to check for codes? Do the fuel gauge and volt gauge indicate normally? Does the fuel pump run for some seconds, when ignition is switched to run? Did you already try and swap the auto shutdown relay? There is ofcourse a change that the PCM itself is at fault, but i would eliminate all other possibilities first before dumping your hard earned $$$ into it.
What type or kind of scanner will work with it?
The ignition switch thing doesn't show up anything. Check engine light comes on along with a arrow pointing up. All relays in engine compartment Check good.4.4 volts going to Ckps. Shouldn't there be 12volts?
The 4.4 V at the crank sensor is ok. The PCM regulates more or less 5V for the sensors.
Your jeep being before 97 should use OBD1 protocol for the scanner. There is no autozone or alike in your nabourhood for the scanning? But since you see the spots going through the jelly stuff inside the PCM, there is a good change that it has reached the electronics and caused a short internally.
Pcm had three bad capacitors from what I was told and repaired by(circuitry repair) in New York. Reinstalled cleaned electrical connections with dielectric cleaner and put dielectric grease on connectors. Still won't start. When ignition switch is turned to the on position, light stays on. Will not flash. I will get an obd1 scanner. Any suggestions on what kind? Thanks for your advice.
(Circuitry repair) said it was repaired and sent it back to me. If there is a good way of checking it without having it in a known running jeep, please let me know. All I know for sure is I haven't gotten it running yet. But, Thank You. For answering me back once again. Any suggestions are welcome.
I would check if there is 12V at the coil, when ignition switch is in run. Don´t know the wrangler, but expect to have the 12V there only for some seconds, when the engine is not started. So you will need an assistant for this. The ground will be switched by the PCM. If there is 12V at pin 2 from the coil rail connector, then or the coil rail is bad, or the problem is the PCM. If there is never 12V at pin 2, than i would change the auto shutdown relay first. By the way, you did check all the fuses first?
Thanks for your suggestions. Yes,I did check all fuses and relays in engine compartment. I used an ohm meter on the fuses and put 12v on each relay and checked them also with ohm meter,(open, closed, open). What would cause the service engine light NOT to go off when key is put in on position and left? Is that telling me that ecm is not getting 12v? If the coil is getting 12v doesn't that mean that ecm is too?
Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket ecm that can be substituted for ecm-56027384. 1992 wrangler 4.0 manual transmission? Apparently (Dodge,Chrysler,Jeep)doesn't believe in standing behind their products, unless it's to push the P.O.S. off the road. I guess that's why everybody would rather own a Toyota. They at least back their products.
Ecm was bad. Even shipped it to circuitry repair in New York. They attempted to repair it . They replaced (3) capacitors supposedly and sent it back to me. Still didn't work. I found a good used one on EBay. And another one from Rockauto that was supposed to be remanufactured.(3) capacitors changed out. Anyway. It runs now. Thank You!!! To all that replied to me. Btw Dodge / jeep dealer said they couldn't get one. And if they could it would cost ($650).
