Re: How do I turn the radio off

The real question is (and I need to go out and check) does turning the volume all the way down mean that you will not be able to hear or use the phone or the navigation system? Will I be missing calls, directions or other voice activated messages? Are there other side effects to just turning the volume down?

Hit the bloody mute button and just fixate about something else, like Climate Change or Kale in salads!

Re: How do I turn the radio off

The radio volume and the radio itself is a pain...my 2003 Grand Cherokee was much better designed, and it came with a CD & Cassette player at no cost...But it is not just that issue....in the 11 years of PROGRESS, they only made the electronics more difficult to use. Also, the Paddle Shifter takes some getting used to...Those PADDLES are going to be a safety Issue down the road...In the 1st three drives in my 2014...while making right turns, I found my fingers inadvertantly hitting the Paddles, putting me in 1st gear...thankfully I had allowed plenty of space before pulling into traffic or traffic would have run me over...Initially it causes panic, before you think to hit the console to quickly shift to Drive. My dealer Service writer has two and said it is a major issue & source of complaints. Same with the Trip gauges...before you would simply hit Reset...now you have to program your way thru all the different modes & options and then HIT OK...not a lot of fun. Same with A/C, wait for it to start....It's not just one issue, just many poor design efforts. And don't get me going on the battery location, apparently the Design staff have never had a battery explode or spew battery acid. That's bad enough in the engine compartment, but what about that happening under your passenger seat... They ignored the tried and true KISS Method {Keep It Simple, Stupid} Alas, it has only been 4 days since I bought it...it has to get better.

Re: How do I turn the radio off

Thanks for the tip, but my 2014 Cherokee radio volume does not stay at 0 or mute. Every time we restart the Jeep the volume goes up. So far the blank usb works very well. Or using the AUX jack for another item also works well. At least for us.

Re: How do I turn the radio off

Google "silent mp3".
Download a silent mp3, I found them up to 32 min (any reasonable length works).
Copy it to an SD card.
Insert SD card, system will recognize it.
Set mp3 to "repeat", you have created perpetual silence.

Whenever you want silence, activate SD: this status will be retained when you shut off the vehicle. Later you can activate radio or iPod as you wish. The iPod will have stayed paused from the time you switched to SD.

I'll bet a dollar "Bill de" is a jeep employee.

What kind of moron would try to justify half-ass engineering like a radio that you can't shut off (and it stays off).

and what kind of automotive engineering department would tie every single In cabin system to the bloody radio?????

I have always said the Chrysler engineers come from the college graduates that got a "C" average or worse.
No other self respecting automobile manufacturer would see the logic in NOT being able to shut off a system in the cabin; so it stays off!!!!!!!

That's not me being a cry baby "bill de".......it's actually all about you defending lame engineering!

I bet you think the 8-speed slush box jeep calls a tranny is a brilliant piece of engineering too!

I am sure as hell glad The car in question is not mine!

I think he must be a 'friend' of mine. He joined Jeep Garage to respond to a post I made in 2013. So far his one and only post.
