How do I turn the radio off

Just a nagging little thing. I have 2014 JGC Overland with the standard radio/GPS. Every time I start the Jeep the radio/XM/SD Card, or whatever was playing, starts up. Is there just a way to have this stay off until I physically turn it on?

Re: How do I turn the radio off

I don't know for certain, but i the month I've had my '14 Limited, I haven't found a way to turn the radio off completely. I usually just turn the volume all the way down.

Unfortunately, the only way I know of is to turn it off prior to shutting down the vehicle. When you start it up, it will resume where you left off (ie turned off). At least this is what I do in my demo (2013 Charger). Just got in the habit of turning off radio, HVAC, etc prior to turning car off that way Octane isn't blasting at 7AM when I remote start my car to go to work

Re: How do I turn the radio off

If you press the volume button it does mute the system. I don't think you can actually shut them off.

Re: How do I turn the radio off

I can't find a way other then to mute if you don't wanna hear anything, like mute+turn off screen might be all you can do :-(

Re: How do I turn the radio off

Okay, just had classroom training on the 2014 Grand Cherokees and I asked specifically about turning off the radio.

The radio can NOT be turned off completely, as 'all systems run off the radio screen (ac, etc).

If you do not like music blasting when you turn your car back on, do NOT hit the mute button, you have to physically turn the volume down as the radio will turn on with whatever volume you turned it off with.

Example, if you hit the mute button but your radio was on volume 20, it will turn back on with volume 20 playing. If you turn it down to 1 or 0 and shut it off, it will turn back on with 1 or 0 respectively.

Figured I'd share, know it's a little late, but I did make it a point to find out for you guys.

Re: How do I turn the radio off

I recently purchased a new 2014 Jeep Cherokee and found out you can not turn off the radio - no off button. Unfortunately, I didnt think I needed to check if the radio could be turned off when I was test driving the vehicle because I would have asked for a reduction in price for unnecessary aggravation. So I came here to try to find out if there was just a programming issue or something. Nope, it was designed to be as obnoxious as possible.

As Renesis07 says, using the mute will not work. You have to turn down the volume EVERY TIME before you turn off the Jeep or it will blast your ears when you start up again. Terrible engineering design.

I bet that every Jeep owner hates this design and wants it changed, perhaps a recall and fix this.

Jeep should rebate every Jeep owner at least $500.00 in aggravation due to their poor design and we can buy a normal radio with an off !!

I feel your pain. I've complained about this very issue at 3 different dealerships. I didn't expect a solution and I wasn't disappointed. There is quite a list of annoyances on the vehicle. Non of them are deal breakers, but still, very annoying.

As opposed to having to turning it off before shutting off the car. Wow, you have to turn a dial instead of pressing a button. And for that you think somebody should pay you $500.

Why do so many cry babies buy Jeeps.

hahah, What? Well, you can remove at least 1 of every single Jeep owner that hates this, I've never turned my radio off once.

You should petition Jeep for that $500 rebate. They'll type it right up on their imaginary typewriter.

Re: How do I turn the radio off

This is from a Jeep review by allpar.com

“That little quirk goes along with a nastier one. In the past, one shut off the stereo by pushing a button in the volume knob. Now, Jeep says you are not shutting off the stereo, just muting it (though the amplifier still shuts down); so when you turn your car back on, the stereo blasts back out again. It’s an obnoxious design choice, which one can only hope will be addressed soon.”

Why do so many Jeep owners feel the need to belittle those who don't agree with every one of their opinions?
