Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

I use my inverter for my laptop and the light comes on and it make a click sound and everything always works good, you defiantly have a bad inverter control module and I believe the control module for it is located under the rear seat on the pass side.

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

Pressing the button sends an input to the CCN (Cabin Compartment Node), then the CCN sends a message to the TIPM to tell it to power up the inverter. The inverter then sends a hard wired signal to the CCN. When the CCN sees that signal, it sends another message to the TIPM to tell it to keep the inverter powered up.

If the CCN does not see the voltage from the inverter it does not send the message to the TIPM to tell it to keep the inverter powered up. If the TIPM does not get the second message from the CCN, the main symptom will be the inverter only stays on for 5 seconds.

If the vehicle is running or not it will effect the voltage readings. Check the battery voltage at the Inverter (voltmeter on pins 1 and 4). If the battery is below 11.5Vdc then the Inverter will not come on (battery protection feature so battery is not drained too low to start vehicle).

If the vehicle is running then the alternator is supplying about 13.5Vdc to the input. While the vehicle is running, hold the voltmeter on Pins 4 and 5 of the Inverter and depress the switch in the I/P. The meter should go from about 0Vdc to 13Vdc. This is the enable feed from the TIPM module. If this line goes active the CAN B messaging is working correctly from the CCN to the TIPM. If you do not see a change in voltage and the LED on the switch is coming on, then the communication from the CCN to the TIPM may have a problem or it could be the wiring from the TIPM to the Inverter.

If the enable line is active pins 2 and 4 (output status line) need to be checked. Hold the meter on 2 & 4 and press the Inverter switch again. The voltage should go from 0Vdc to somewhere between 4-6Vdc. If it does not then there is an issue with the Inverter and it will need to be replaced.

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

Wow, that's a lot of info. I definitely don't have the equipment to look at it myself. You must be a mechanic or have a shop manual for the Jeep?

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

Well it seems the problem is much more complicated of an issue. The dealer has replaced a bunch of things so far. Next up is the instrument cluster as the power for the inverter runs through it. Good thing for warranties. Really hoping this solves it!
