How Does WK Inverter Work?

I just brought home my new WK Jeep. I wanted to try and use the power inverter however I don't know what, if anything, is wrong... I read the manual and all it says is to push the button and plug something in. When I push the button on the dash, there is an amber light that comes on right away but goes out after a couple seconds. I can't seem to get anything to work. Is this fuse related? I unplugged Cavity 23, pushed the button, and got the same result. I guess I thought if the fuse was blown I wouldn't see any light. Any ideas?

Curt

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

What is supposed to happen on a working unit?

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

push the button, plug in and good to go. that is weird if the light is coming on with the fuse out...sure you pulled the right one? try a - terminal reset (unplug and step on the brake for 30 secs). Have you tried other units? i.e phone charger, iPod and laptop/dvd player?

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

Yeah, the manual says Cavity 23 and that's the one I pulled. Is the light always supposed to be amber in color and stay on after being pressed? Cause this is amber for a few seconds and then goes out. Doesn't flash or anything. The fuse looks ok but I don't have means to test it. I will probably put in a new one and see if that works.

What setting should I have the key at? Should the vehicle be running or on acc or something else when I do a terminal reset?

I wanted to plug in an external hard drive but what I ended up doing is grabbing a different inverter and using that in the cig lighter. Drive worked fine. Something is up with the inverter.

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

the light should stay illuminated once you push the button. so when the fuse is out it does the same thing as if it were in 23? weird

key should be OUT of the car and in your pocket when you do a reset

let us know waht you find out...

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

When you say terminal reset, is that the same thing as taking the wire off the battery? Or is this just removing the inverter fuse and stepping on the brake? I was thinking it was the later but maybe the former is what you guys are referring to. If it is the whole battery thing, don't I have to remove the fuse for the radio as well so I don't fry the mygig with a power surge when hooking it back up?

Thanks,
Curt

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

removing negative terminal and stepping on brake for 30 secs...I have reset mine 4+ times and never unplugged a fuse and do not have issues. I will let others chime in, but there should be no prob disconnecting negative terminal and plugging it back in...like I said I have never had a "surge", nor have I ever in all of the cars I have owned.

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

I swapped out fuses and that didn't make a difference. I push the button, the amber light comes on, after three seconds it goes out. Do I have to have something plugged in, in order for the inverter to work or will it come on and stay on if nothing is plugged in? I've tried both with the same result but I just want to see what standard operating procedure is. I guess that leaves me with the terminal reset. Will try that sometime here. Maybe tonight or this weekend.

By the way... Won't I loose all my settings and things by doing this? Will I have to reprogram the garage door, radio, memory settings, etc? Is there anything that won't need to be reprogramed? I just got this thing and spent two nights setting it all up the way I want.

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

I have never had to reset my garage door opener...all radio settings will reset (maybe pulling the radio's fuse will help?) but other than that it is no big deal IMO. I don't really listen to the radio, and I have my audio controls memorized...

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

You should hear a click in (away from the button) i am assuming a relay for the inverter or something iirc. If you dont its not powering up, and its telling you something is wrong. You may have a blown inverter.

If its new (to you) id bring it back and have the seller look into it, assuming you got it from a dealer of some sort.

Re: How Does WK Inverter Work?

Ah, yeah, there is no click. Just the light. I bet the inverter is shot. No problem, I'll have them take a look at it. I got the extended warranty so I'm covered!
