Humming noise

Hello This is first time doing this hopefully I'm in the right section. Ok I have a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee limited, 4.7 quadra drive. I bought the vehicle a year ago overall it was in good shape except for a humming noise coming from the front. I thought it was the wheel hubs figure no problem, I can fix easily. Since I've had the vehicle by the way first jeep and I love it I've done a lot to it so far, I plan to post some pics soon. In the front I have replaced new, both wheel hubs, both CV axles, Had all bearing in the front differential replaced by professional and converted the front drive shaft repezzetta to a double cardin u-joint.

With all these changes still have the same noise. It starts at about 35-45 mph and gets louder the faster I go. when I let off the gas the sound goes away when I step on gas again it comes right back. when I have the cruise control on it will do the same, when cruise needs to slow down the noise goes away come back when it needs to speed up, like when going up and down hills.

Other than that if I can get this corrected this jeep will be perfect. I'm hoping I can have some help hear.

Re: Humming noise

Welcome to the garage.
Did you already change the T-case fluid? Low or depleted fluid can cause the T-case to make weird noises. The NV247 T-case needs special Mopar fluid, which is Mobil 424.

Re: Humming noise

Thanks for the reply I have changed the transfercase fluid with Mopar require fluids. I also changed the dif fluids 2 times within 20k miles with required fluids including the additive.

Re: Humming noise

Did you see the internals of the front differential? How is the contact patern on the ring gear for example? Are the ring gear and pinion a paired set? Is the backlash ok? Since the work was done by a professional mechanic, these items should be ok, but you never know.
If the noise is exactly the same as before, i would even think of an other cause.
You could also as a test remove the front propeller shaft. The front diff will still rotate, but without torque supplied. If it still makes the same noise, i would suspect the diff, if not, i would suspect the T-case.

Re: Humming noise

Thanks Frank, I asked the pro's to check gear they said it looked ok. I'm going to look myself and also take your recommendation to test. Just to make sure.

What do you think if I put the wj on stands, remove tires and run the vehicle so I can listen while I'm outside.

Re: Humming noise

Maybe that you will hear the noise when on stands, but i think that the lack of resistance on the drive train will change the behaviour and noise.
