Is my fuel pump going bad?

Hi All,

I have a 2011 WK2 with 104000 miles. It has already had the TIPM recall done and has the external relay work around. Recently the jeep has been taking a bit longer than normal cranking before it starts. I have noticed that if I put the ignition in the on position (press button twice with foot of brake) and wait for the fuel pump to finish running and then start the jeep it starts right away. Could it be that the pump is getting weaker and it doest have enough umph to pressurize the fuel rail enough during the time it runs before the jeep cranks in the normal ignition sequence?

I just had new spark plugs put in as part of regular maint. so that rules those out although I dont really thing they have anything to do with this.

Thoughts?

I tried to look around the forum but any search with "WK2" and "fuel pump" in it points me to threads about the fuel pump relay issue with the TIMP but this is something different.

Re: Is my fuel pump going bad?

I presume that the starting problem was there before changing the plugs?
Maybe a good thing to get the fuel pressure checked, could be a problem with the fuel pressure regulator or the filter.

Re: Is my fuel pump going bad?

Thanks for the reply Frango, you are right it the problem was present before the spark plug change.

Thats what I was thinking to do next, I hope the fuel pump is not too much of a pain to replace the fuel pump. Dropping the tank is a given but hopefully its not hard
