When underneath they found (and showed me) that the front axle dif bearing was rubbish and a lot of play (the bearing where the prop goes into the diff housing) so we are driving it with only the rear diff connected at the moment
I have a used axle arriving soon, and they are going to swap it over, 4 hours estimate ? sounds about right to me
Checking the oil quality (colour/smell) is the first thing to do when a transmission gives problems. It can give an idea what is going on inside.
You where lucky to find a good transmission for not too much. Overhere not many jeeps where sold, so finding any from a junkyard is almost impossible and when they have it, it will cost a fortune.
The bearing you are talking about is the pinion bearing. Didnīt the diff loose fluid at the pinion seal?
4 hours to change the front axle sounds about right.
