Jeep Cherokee '01 4.0L head gasket
Here's the situation: My '01 Cherokee has been overheating on and off and making a high pitched whistle after it heats up. Whistle stops when on the gas, and comes back once I let up.
Had it in the shop and mechanic says I have a crack in the head gasket. $600 to replace but says its not worth it because its an old car. Says its best just to continue to add coolant every week.
I've heard that the whistle could be due to a loose bolt or nut on the intake manifold, which if tightened, could stop the whistle.
The question is, is it worth it to replace the head gasket? Will this cause issues down the line with my engine?
Even though its old in years, only has 128,000 mi.
