Low viscosity engine code engine troubles

Hey guys,
The other day I drove about 45 min then shut the jeep off for about 5 min. When I went to start it, it was real hard to start and would only run for a sec making some pinging noises. Engine light came on and it was the low viscosity light. Anybody run into this issue at all. A buddy of mine thinks it have skipped a tooth on the timing chain... Anything helps!!

What year, model and engine do you have? That might help others in trying to help you.
