Mileage questions/fix

Hey gang, I know the search button is my friend, I did some research but I'm still looking for opinions. I just picked up my 05 WK limited with a 5.7. The best mileage I've seen according to the lie O meter is 9.7 mpg.
The truck has 50k miles on it. The only code showing is the p1521. What would you guys do to try to get the mpg's back to where they should be?
I was thinking proper weight oil so the mds will work, new egr valve, pcv and spark plugs. Also, does the p1521 code have to be cleared or will it go away with time after the proper weight oil is in it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Mileage questions/fix

I have a WJ with the 4.7 engine, but my gas milage suddenly also went worse. After changing the fuel filter/pressure regulator, all back to normal again. So you could try to measure the fuel pressure to see if thats ok.

9.7 mpg on stock....no mods?

First I'd do the mpg math with pen and paper. If it is still off I'd get a new set of front O2 sensors and check my spark plugs.

X2 plus also check yuor Air Filter and check your tire pressure. That will help just a bit.
