misfiring on startup trans overtemp

OK y'all I just bought this jeep Thursday. Its an 07 GC Laredo 4x4 and noticed a reverse lamp was out, so I went to O'Reillys to get a bulb and when I got back in I went to crank it up and it started but was misfiring terribly and shut off. When it shut off I noticed a transmission over temp notification on the dash. I'm taking it back to the dealer this afternoon because it has a 3 month/3000 mile warranty and they say they are going to install an aftermarket trans cooler but not sure about the misfire problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: misfiring on startup trans overtemp

Which engine?
After it stalled, did it start up normally? Is (or was) the check engine light on?
Having a fault code will help a lot in the trouble shooting. Was the engine hot when you tried to start it? Many times a bad crank sensor gives problems as you have. The transmission overtemp message happened to many others, even with cool transmission. When im not wrong it was mostly the transmission controller which was causing that message without reason. Depending on the engine, this controller is a stand alone, or integrated into the PCM.

Sorry. Its got the 3.7 in it usually the problem occurs after driving 10 or more miles so the engine and trans are at normal operating temperature and no check engine light appears what so ever and no it does not start normally after stalling. I usually have to wait upwards of 15-20 minutes before it will start normally

The no start when hot, points towards the crank sensor.

I will definitely mention that to the dealer. I bought it from a small town used lot, the only one around that offers any type of warranty on their vehicles. That was one of the main reasons for my purchase through them

Mechanic at the dealer says it seems like a fuel problem. Dropped it off this morning for them to check it out and get it fixed
