My TPMS Leaking Air?

Quick question, my TPMS light came on the other day so I filled the low tire, light came on last night so I filled the same tire again, now today it was low when I just went outside since last night. I took the tire inside and sprayed soapy water everywhere and found the leak, its coming from the stem. The part between the threaded thing and the nut looking thing around it(not the cap). I know it needs to be serviced but the tire shop I use is closed all weekend, go figure. I took a 12mm wrench to the nut looking thing and tightened down, seemed to turn a little. Now the bubbling has gone down to almost none. Is this how to tighten it, I never worked with the TPMS before so dont know if what im doing is good or not. Id rather wait till monday to have it rebuilt, if possible.

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

Sweet. I think I "fixed" it for now. Maybe that O-ring is bad. I tightened it and now more bubbles. I should be good.

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

I had the same exact problem when I switched to my new rims.., I did the same thing, tighten it slowly til it stops leaking. I've never had a problem since.

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

yeah, every time you put them on new wheels, spend the 4 bux and buy the rebuild kit. it could save major cake down the road. literally!

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

Im my second post I meant NO more leaks, not "now" more. It fixed it, tightening that 12mm nut part down good. I was actually looking for a nail or something stuck in the tire to make it leak and was expecting to have to put a plug in somewhere, im surprised I was able to fix it just by tightening the stem. Im glad i didnt go to the tire shop, they prob would of charged me for something I didnt need.

When I swapped these TPMS sensors over back in March to the new rims I did have them rebuilt. It was a rip off what they charged me for parts though, since I just saw they sell for as little as 2 bucks per kit online.

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

I think it was because of the cold temps now, it dropped past 15 degrees last night, right now its 23 degrees and the air in that tire is holding good still.

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

Can someone explain in detail exactly how to fix this? My tire light comes on here an there, i put air in all 4 to 33 or 35, i forget now.. but it fixes it for a while, then the light comes back.. how can I check to see if my TPMS sensors are ok or not?

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

timmy checked his with soapy water. get qa spray bottle, add some suddsy soap like dawn, then pump them up, and spray the mix on the area near your tire valve. any leakes will be detected with the soapy water.

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

Thats what I did. I first took the "bad" tire off the car and inspected it for a nail or any cuts and found nothing, so because its so cold out now i took the tire inside and sprayed soapy water from a spray bottle, just water and a drop of dish detergent and shook the bottle up good for nice suds. I actually first saw a piece of glass imbedded in the treads but that wasnt the problem, then I sprayed the valve stem and thats where I saw the bubbles forming from. Not from the cap but from between the threaded piece and the nut that goes against the rim. Used a 12mm wrench and tightened it down good, now since I did it no more air loss.

Re: My TPMS Leaking Air?

In the pic that Robpp posted in the second post from the top, you see the third piece down in the rebuild kit, the part that has a nut fitting on it directly above the black O-ring, try tightening that down clockwise with a 12mm wrench. That might fix it. But check with soapy water to make sure thats where your leaking from.
