Need help with 2.5l issues

Hi everyone I'm new here but I have owned a few jeeps, I just received a jeep Comanche on a trade for a Yamaha banshee I had and I am having some issues with the engine. The Comanche is a 1990 4wd 5 speed with the 2.5l in it. The engine has piston slap and running issues,so I was going to do a rebuild. When I ran the numbers on engine block it came out that the previous owner swapped a 1995 Cherokee engine into it. I started looking deeper into the running issues and found that there is a difference between the years in distributors and probably other things. my real question is will it be worth working out all the issues with this engine,or will I relieve a lot of headache doing a i6 or a v8 swap. I only wanted this truck to do light trail riding and using it for hunting so a v8 is really not needed. I just need advice because I am giving myself headaches trying to figure out what to do. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Need help with 2.5l issues

Welcome to the forum, I would love to be able to help but the 2.5l slug is kind of a rare thing around my parts let alone dealing with motor operational differences between the years. Hopefully someone here has some insite to assist you.
