New Jeep Cherokee steering wheel shakes when braking

I have a brand new 2015 Jeep Cherokee with 3,000 miles. When i apply the brakes the steering wheel shakes a bit. The higher the speed and the more pressure i apply on the brakes the worst the shake. My understanding that most of the time this is a problem with the break rotor due to uneven surface. But with only 3,000 how is this possible? I am taking it to service next monday

It definitely is possible to have a warped rotor at almost any mileage. It could have happened on the first test drive...

But what could have caused this?

Warped rotors are actually quite uncommon. What is common is brake pad deposits unevenly distributed on the rotors.

Do this:

Do five or six maximum braking runs for 60-5mph without activating ABS. Drive around slowly to cool the rotors without keeping the brakes on at a stop (use park instead). This is the "bedding" procedure and will cure most brake shuddering problems. If you live in a hilly area, it's good practice to put it in P at a stop to keep pad material from sticking to hot rotors.

I tried but that didn't work. Just got the car back from service. They said they had to resurface the brake rotors. I am shocked that this happened after only a few thousand miles

That's too bad. I hope the problem does not return.

Hi,

When you resurfaced the rotors did they have to change the brake pads along? How is the problem now?

Just resurfaced the rotors for all 4 wheels. Problem is gone. My fear is that there is an imbalance somewhere and the problem may return. Only time will tell
