New Rear Brakes and Rotors, ABS light on with brake noise

I have a 2001 Grand Jeep Cherokee Larado, 4.0, 2WD. Just changed the bearings and seals on rear axle (only the drivers side was leaking, but changed both). Had the bearings and seals pressed on at a local trustworthy shop. Put new brakes and rotors on. Took it for a test drive and the ABS light comes on (it came on as soon as the engine was starated). Then, I start hearing noises from the rear brakes, like they are scrubbing the rotor. When I use the brakes, the noise gets louder with every pump of the brake and the brake pedal feels kind of mushy (we did bleed the brakes). However, when I go in reverse, the noise completely stops and the pedal feels firm like it should. Please help!

Welcome to the garage.
For the ABS light, check the wires from both rear wheel speed sensors for damage or disconnected wires.
Regarding the brakes, i would remove the rear wheels and check for any obvious problem (wrongly mounted component or check for rub spots)

Also, the wheels are hot after driving. Both sides. What would make both of my calipers stick?

Re: New Rear Brakes and Rotors, ABS light on with brake noise

Did you lubricate the caliper sliding pins before installation? Also check if the brake hoses are not twisted during installation, that could close the hose off internally and keep pressure on the caliper after braking. Also possible that something went wrong during installation, so re-check the work done.
Are the parking brake shoes not dragging?

It seems to have been the parking brake. I made the necessary adjustments and cleaned the ABS sensors. The ABS light is off and the noise and heat are gone! Thanks!
