Noisy Heater/AC fan

I have a 2007 Grand Cherokee Limited, 3.0L diesel turbo. It experienced an unusual noise from the heater/AC fan and emitted an smell as though something was burning. This event occurred yesterday morning and since it is my wife's automobile I assume that the situation has not rectified itself and continues to be prevalent. There are several things that could cause this and I am confused about where to start in order to correct this situation. Has anyone experienced this problem before and if so, how do I approach a solution? I am new to this forum but from what I have read from all the posts I am impressed by all the technical advice. I appreciate all the help that I can get.

Re: Noisy Heater/AC fan

Welcome to the garage.
I would start pulling the blower fan to see if there is any debris stuck into it. You can access the blower motor from the passengers footwell area looking up, its fastened with three screw to the HVAC housing.

Re: Noisy Heater/AC fan

Thank you, I will give it a try. Any Ideas on what could cause the burning smell when the fan is on?

Re: Noisy Heater/AC fan

What kind of burning smell is it? Electrical? It can be that some organic material (leaves etc) entered the AC system and is now laying on the heater core, but i wont expect a real burning smell coming from that. If it is electrical, then it could come from the blower motor itself. After removing the blower motor, turn it by hand and feel if maybe one of the bearings gone bad (axial or radial play on the fan).
