overdrive to use or not to use?

This seems like it emptys my tank when I'm on highway with over drive on. Is this normal? I got a Laredo v8

Re: overdrive to use or not to use?

It's supposed to do just the opposite.

"An overdrive (OD) is a mechanism that allows an automobile to cruise at sustained speed with reduced engine RPM, leading to better fuel economy, lower noise, and lower wear.["

I know on the older units, pressing OD used to turn off the Over Drive. If you are on the highway and you turn that feature on and your engine Revs go higher this is what is happening. Kind of like the Traction control light on those buttons from a few years back.... if the light was on the Traction system was off. They have changed the indicators to be more clear as this was very confusing!

It used to be instead of "Tow / Haul" the manufacturer would recommend turning off overdrive so there was not as much stress on the engine / transmission. In normal Driving you want Overdrive to function so you just need to verify what the switch means.

Hope that helps?
