Luckily there is only 2 bolts holding the crank sensor in. But replacing the crank sensor fixed mine, saving me 300.00 just to have it diagnosed at the jeep dealer not counting parts and labor, hopefully this will fix yours. You probably are refering to the crank sensor position on the 4.0L petrol engine, but he has the 2.7L CRD engine.
See attached picture for the position of the crank sensor on the 2.7 CRD
