problems with 02 liberty

I have a 2002 jeep liberty 4 wheel drive 3.7 v6 that is idling rough and running rough. If I give it just a little throttle it does fine and very slowly picks up speed. If I have to get on it like I'm pulling out into traffic, it either lunges like it's trying to die or just cuts out. It never completely dies though. The check engine light is always on but once the rpms begin to rise, the check engine light flashes until the rpms drop back down. Then it stays steady again. I tried the catalytic converter and that did not solve anything. This vehicle is my only way to work and my girlfriends only way to college. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: problems with 02 liberty

flashing MIL means a misfire. The flashing MIL will likely cause catalytic converter failure. The misfire could be a couple things, from a simple tuneup to an internal mechanical issue. Its going to need some diagnosis!
