rear end hums when coasting
Im hoping someone can give me an answer to whether this is normal or needing repairs...
My 2007 v6 grand cherokee (awd) has a noticable humming noise while I let off the gas and coast. Its definately coming from the rear end (transfercase, rear dif, ect). It starts as soon as the transmission disengages and makes the humm all the way through the gears to a stop, with a notable pause between gears, "hummmmm, hummmm, hummm, hum".
Im not sure if this is normal and ive just now started to notice it, or if its a sign of trouble. I noticed it the other day when i was driving with the back seats down. It has decreased in volume though, being very noticable last week and hardly noticable now.
Im on the fence about bringing it it because I know trans work costs a fortune and you can easily be douped into a ton of stuff you dont need... but I also dont want to burn out a dif or something over something stupid and be stranded...
