Roof rack removal

Hey guys, I have a 2014 grand Cherokee and was curious if anyone has removed their roof rack bars...the screws holding them are some kind of wierd star pattern. Does anyone know where I can get that kind of bit or rachet? Thanks in advance

Lowes or home depot should have them. I know autozone will. They are called torx

Re: Roof rack removal

Yes, commonly referred to as Torx, though that is a brand. Common enough the even the off brands size them in "T_" (ie. T1, T5, etc). If you find an off brand labeled as a "star bit" it's the same thing.

Re: Roof rack removal

What is left on the Jeep after you remove these? Are there plugs or something to fill the holes? This is one of the first things I will be doing. Thanks for creating a thread.

Thank you. So to clarify, I need to buy some plugs for those holes?

No, you'll have to modify the Srt bars a little to have the screws fit, a little grinding of the holes to make the original screws fit

Re: Roof rack removal

I have the exact problem...'14 Jeep GCL with those nonfunctional side rails- more like moldings They are indeed a T tip- i think a T25, any Depot. Lowes, pepboys or hardware store will sell the bit. What did you replace these moldings with? Got a link or info with the new side rails?
Thnx
