rpm surges

What could cause rpms to fluctuate when stopped? Also my 05 JGC 4.7 TRANNY THUMPS when coming to a stop ((

Any number of items, but if you've got a flaking out torque convertor on the transmission, that might be a place to start looking. e.g. if the thump is the torque convertor not idling properly.

This sounds as a problem with the TPS. A failing TPS causes rpm surges and the TPS output is used for the transmission shifting. If you have a scanner which shows live data, you could see the TPS % and see if its jumping up and down a bit.

THANK YOU SOO MUCH FRANGO 100. You have be a great source of info. I will try installing the tps. I just hope that it is not the TCC OR PCM.
