Shift Solenoid A engine code

My check engine light just came on so I had the engine code read and it came back as "Shift solenoid A code" anyone have recommendations on where to go from here and what it means? Thank you in advance for your input

Re: Shift Solenoid A engine code

Isn't the shift solenoid in the tranny?

Re: Shift Solenoid A engine code

Yes, but transmission issues will still trigger the check "engine" light

Re: Shift Solenoid A engine code

Yes I know this. I'm just saying the shift solenoid is inside the transmission. So unless you have tranny skills take it to a shop like Aamco they do free estimates.

Ah. Ok. I see where you were going with the question. It didn't really read that way, damn texting/email. I'm going to have to take it some where. It will be way easier for me and better for the jeep I'm sure.

Re: Shift Solenoid A engine code

If the transmission is shifting normally, you could first try to reset the fault and see if it comes back. The shift solenoid is part of the solenoid block inside the tranny.
If the fault comes back or there are shifting issues, you could first try to clean the big connector on the tranny. If that doesn´t help, you most probably have to change the solenoid assy. If you have reasonable mechanics skills, you could do this change yourself, no rocket science.
