Sluggish top end speed

I have a 2002 Jeep Wrangler with a 1999 in line 6 engine. In February i lost a freeze plug and the engine started knocking. I had the engine rebuilt but I have no top in speed. The lower gears are peppy enough but my max speed is 65 mph I have to work to get it to that speed. Highway driving is constantly downshifting and the petal to the metal.

I think it came with 15" tires & I replaced with rubicon 17" wheels & BFG mud terrain. Any suggestions why it has not pep in overdrive?

Re: Sluggish top end speed

Do you have warrantee on the rebuild? This can be several things, from engine related, to exhaust related to fuel supply related.

Sure, It came with a one yr warranty. Also I cut the muffler pipe to see if it was the cat conv or muffler. Nothing changed in the top end.

Re: Sluggish top end speed

Before you lost the freeze plug, the top speed was different with the same wheels/tires you are using now?

Re: Sluggish top end speed

I imagine that the bigger tires have something to do with it. A tire with a larger outer diameter, will make less rotation at the same speed, so less rotation for the engine, but a higher load. ( i think i wrote this well, but otherwise someone will correct me)
