smoking front wheel

HELP - See to have a very hot front near side wheel and calliper - no visible damage, new winter wheels 3 weeks ago, brakes 2 months ago, no discernable damage to brakes, rotors or caliper, but this brake seems to be locking on and causing a lot of heat. Anybody had this problem before or any ideas as to cause please, could fluid cause this?? Only done this twice in over 7 days of driving about 200Klm per day??

Re: smoking front wheel

I had this issue, started with one caliper then worked round them all. Caused severe headaches and money loss.

Turned out to begin with the shop installed new rotors and pads wrongly. So I took it to another shop who fitted them correctly, then cleaned/rebuilt the calipers and added new fluid. Still had the same problem.

Then out of despair I bought the Akebono upgrade, new rear calipers, new rotors and pads and got the fluid flushed (again). No issues since, but I spent a fortune.

I'd suggest getting the Akebono caliper upgrade if they aren't already fitted, mid '02 was when they were fitted from the factory. The teeves calipers are basically junk and this is a common issue.

Unhappy Re: smoking front wheel

thanks marty I changed the brakes myself about 12 weeks ago. there has been no problems untill 2 days ago the only change has been new winter rimsand rubber 2/3 weeks ago

im an expat now living in canada so def need winter rubber

the calipers are teeves and i cannot afford to change wondered if there is a reason why caliper would stick on and cause heat ?

Re: smoking front wheel

Your Caliper is seized! You have to replace your caliper.

Re: smoking front wheel

I don't know what caused it but the seals in the caliper are worn causing it not to work properly. Mine worked when cold but as soon as they warmed up they stuck on.

You could take it to a shop to get them rebuilt but that didn't work on mine. You should beable to pickup a working caliper from a junk yard which would do if you can't do the upgrade.
