Steering wheel vibrating over 60mph speeds

Hello.
I have a 2015 jeep grand cherokee which I purchased last month. I've noticed that when I'm driving at speeds above 60 mph, the steering wheel starts to vibrate. If I let my hands of the steering I can literally watch the wheel and the silver paddle shifters vibrate in front of my eyes. But when I am driving in the city or at slower speeds around 40-50mph then thr steering does not vibrate. Please help me understand what could be causing this? The car has Quadra trac, tow package and 18 inch on/off road tires. Also I only have 3000 miles on the car. Thanks in advance.

Re: Steering wheel vibrating over 60mph speeds

Had the exact problem with 2 different 2015 SRT's (first was bought back by FCA for transmission problems). Solved it on the second one with an alignment and road force balance on all four wheels, which I paid for out of pocket due to lack of trust in the dealer. Mine now tracks perfectly with no vibration.

Good luck, it's pretty sad they can't manage to ship these with good balance and alignment but I've been told the alignment issues are sometimes due to the shipping process if they strap over something too tightly.

Alignment or even incorrectly weighted rims. Should be an easy and fast repair.

I noticed that 3 of the 4 tires have just 1 weight placed on the inside of the rim. The 4th tire has 4 weights inside of the rim. Is that normal or are they supposed to have even number of weights placed on all wheels?

Re: Steering wheel vibrating over 60mph speeds

Mine has been doing the same thing at highway speeds. Anything over 60 mph... Have the GK Altitude with 11k miles... Haven't had time to have them check it..

every wheel/tire requirement is different. The fewer the weights and the smaller size the weights the better, that means they are balanced well by their self. Ideally there would be no weights used at all but that almost never would happen, tires and wheels are never that perfect.
go to a dealer or shop that can road force balance if that doesn't fix it try somewhere else just because a shop has a road force balancer doesn't mean the shop knows how to use it properly.

What this guy said and they will also be able to see if the wheel / wheels are "out of round" as well at the same time...............
