Re: Sticking Caliper

Had enough of grubbing about and maybe finding out whats wrong.

Just bit the bullet and booked it into an independent garage for new disks, pads flexi hoses and calipers. I have stated I want Akebonos on, I take it that is correct?

Re: Sticking Caliper

I think that if you don't troubleshoot it first, you have a change to end up changing the Master Cilinder as well. It could be one of the lines, but just changing and then find out it didn't solve the problem is an expensive way of trouble shooting.

Re: Sticking Caliper

Yeah Akebonos are right

If it were more than just the one caliper sticking, I'd say most likely the MC, but with just the one causing the headache it should be OK.

My money's on either it being a line or knackered piston.

Re: Sticking Caliper

If you havent yet, change the brake hoses. i've had problems on older jeeps(mj/xj)in the past. As it was explained to me: sometimes the hoses break down and the inside layer can separate a little,so when you use the brakes and the fluid moves it can lift it off the side of the hose and restrict or block fluid. depending on the way it separates it can either cause less braking force or wont pull the fluid back from the caliper.
I've had problems twice,so I got in the habit of just changing them when i do the brakes. I'd rather spend a little extra and be done with it.

Re: Sticking Caliper

Truck now back and all is well, seems that both Calipers were knackered and the hoses as well.
