tensioner on the serpentine belt

Got a call from the dealer for a check egine light that popped up the other day. It's a speed sensor in the transmission to the tune of 826.00 parts and labor. Fine, at least it's not the tranny itself.

They also told me the tensioner arm on my Jeep is seized up and needs to be replaced before the serp belt loosens up ands slips off. They want 375.00 parts and labor. My question is how hard is it to replace this myself? That seems like alot of money to shell out for something that looks very easy to access. I have the 3.7 with enough room in front of it to work on it comfortably.

Re: tensioner on the serpentine belt

yep, not bad... I have found the mount bolt to be especially tight, make sure you have a good quality 13mm socket and ratchet with a good handle, you will hate your life if you strip this bolt

How much?!? Tell them to GTF! It's really easy to do.

Re: tensioner on the serpentine belt

Thanks guys. I'm going to replace this myself. Dealer prices are always high, but this one struck me as ridiculous for the job. As always, great site, great people, great info!
