tire damage, should I replace it?

first of all I'm glad I wasn't driving the Jeep although it would probably just blast through that and there would be no damage :-) I was driving the other car, kia sportage

this morning driving at my workplace parking lot, looking at nowhere and not paying attention a hit a tree/parking lot curb, was driving at parking lot speed so maybe 10mph, I don't know... the result doesn't look as bad as some pictures I've seen but still wondering what should I do...

the curb was about 8" or so...

the tires have only about 15k miles, and it would probably cost me around $150 - $200 to replace it I guess. If I need to replace, can I replace only one tire? two tires and keep the current ones as emergency spares?

If I can continue to use the tire, is there anything I can/should do to fix or make the damage a little better to prevent more damage in the future? Like to put some rubber silicone compound or something like that...

Re: tire damage, should I replace it?

It looks like there is cord showing in a couple of those pics.
If the damage gets to the cord, the cord will deteriorate.

Even without cord being damaged [where it appears it is], that is a nasty ding right at the sidewall/tread area where most tireshops wouldn't fix a regular puncture.

As for needing 1 vs 2, measure the tread depth. A good honest tire dealer will tell you if the new vs existing depth is within tolerance or if you should replace both.

The funny looking gray tires in the bottom pics don't appear to need replacement since they appear to be made out of concrete.

Re: tire damage, should I replace it?

I'm usually the last to say "replace". But, if that damage is as bad (deep) as it looks in your pictures ... then take Istowell's advice!
